BACK AT IT!!! WHAT I NOTICED DURING MY BREAK…

Published by kago71 under music Edit This

First off, I’ve gotta give my apologies to all those who frequent this blog….I took a short break from posting here to focus on other certain situations that will help me in the long run….Thanks to everyone for their support.               NOW FOR HIP-HOP!

Hip-Hop is my life, so I’m always keeping my eyes and ears open to the new & the old. Certain unsigned artists are much more soulful than most of the rappers we have on top of the game right now.

I don’t really want to do much more talking. I’d rather just let you hear the music yourself. Something I noticed during my break is that MTV and VH1 aren’t spinning rap videos like they used to….This morning, I saw 5 music videos of about 3 different genres,  and the only rap video was “Run This Town” by Jay-Z feat. Kanye West & Rihanna. All the other videos were of songs I’d never heard before, but loved them! Maybe because I can relate to the other songs well….This is what hip-hop is missing. Artists, CEO’s, Presidents, V.P.’s, A&R’s, Producers, etc etc. that actually care about the content. Nowadays, the music and it’s fan’s are suffering because everyone is so blinded by money.

Late: Weekly Hip-Hop Billboard 200 Update

Published by kago71 under music Edit This

Though I didn’t expect for the chart to really get better for hip-hop right now, the way it’s looking isn’t so great. But at the same time, it isn’t so bad. I mean, Black Eyed Peas are holding down the #1 spot again…and Eminem is still in the top 5! So in that respect, we have nothing to complain about. We are at the top of the chart!!!!! But 2 of our top 5 are ranked #60 and #70 on the list! And under them, are only 3 whole albums….With that said, here are your top hip-hop albums on the Billboard 200 chart…..

# 1 Black Eyed Peas -The E.N.D.

# 5 Eminem- Relapse

# 45 Mos Def - The Ecstatic

# 60 Rick Ross -Deeper Than Rap

# 70 Lil Wayne - Tha Carter III

Remaining Hip Hop Albums Within The Top 100

# 79 Method Man & Redman- Blackout 2!

# 88 Soulja Boy Tell’em- SouljaBoyTellem.com

# 94 T.I.- Paper Trail

Remebering: The King of Pop - Michael Jackson

Published by kago71 under music Edit This

Michael Jackson was not a hip-hop artist in any way, but his influence was larger than his own genre. He was the only artist of his kind. The biggest crossover artist of all time. Ever since the news broke of his untimely death, I’ve noticed the HUGE response from music fans of all genres, and especially from hip-hop artists and fans.

Majority of us men between the ages of 30 and 22 all wanted to be like Mike when we were little kids. Most of us all probably know the Thriller dance too! He never stopped being a kid! And is the reason why he connected with so many people from so many different generations.

The legend may’ve pass away, but his music will LIVE FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

R.I.P.

Michael Jackson
1958-2009

Weekly Hip-Hop Billboard Update

Published by kago71 under music Edit This

This week is by far our worst overall week in the top 100 since I’ve been reporting the billboard chart to you. But with 2 albums in the top 5, why complain? Black Eye’d Peas dropped to #2 in their second week, to the Jonas Bros new album release. Eminem is still sitting strong at #4 and has already sold over 1 million copies. Not a suprise really! At any rate, these two pretty much sit at the top alone. The closest hip-hop artist to Eminem on the Billboard 200 is Mos Def, at #29. Then we have to go 35 positions down the list to get our #4, which is Rick Ross at # 64. Method Man & Redman close out our top 5 this week at #70. Pretty Ugly…Let’s just hope it doesn’t get any worse!

# 2 Black Eyed Peas -The E.N.D.

# 4 Eminem- Relapse

# 29 Mos Def - The Ecstatic

# 64 Rick Ross -Deeper Than Rap

# 70 Method Man & Redman - Blackout 2!

Remaining Hip Hop Albums Within The Top 100

# 79 Lil Wayne- Tha Carter III

# 83 Soulja Boy Tell’em- SouljaBoyTellem.com

# 94 Busta Rhymes- Back On My B.S.

# 99 T.I.- Paper Trail

Auto-Tune: What’s The Big F****** Deal?

Published by kago71 under music Edit This

For a while now, music artists and fans, have been ranting about Auto-Tune. The more popular it’s gotten, the more complaining people have been doing. And I just want to know what the big fuckin deal is here…..First, you’ve got T. Pain.

T. Pain made some comments before about how he feels that artists owe him royalties for using Auto-Tune. Then somewhere else that it was only ok for artists like Kanye and Lil Wayne to use it….This dude done lost his mind!!!!

First of all, T. Pain is not the owner, the inventor, or even the first artist to use Auto-Tune. Really though! You can go back some years and hear pieces of songs, where they’d put Auto-Tune on an artist’s voice. Then you’ve got Cher, who pretty much used it on a full song.  The fact that T. Pain made it the most popular doesn’t mean anything, accept that maybe Antares should cut him a check for a percentage of sales they’ve gotten since T. Pain became popular.

The reason it is so popular is because it makes someone who just can’t hit those notes, sound like they can. If you know someone who has Auto-Tune, tell them to let you try and sing something, and play your voice back with Auto-Tune on it…. You’ll be amazed that it’s you singing.

So if you didn’t invent it, and are knowingly not the first person to have a hit single using it, you can’t say anything about others use of it, or really even say that people are biting your style… Be content with the fact that when the masses hear a song with an artist using Auto-Tune on it, they think of you. T. Pain….

On another note, Jay-Z now wants the Auto-Tune era to die….

The only problem with this, is Jay-Z couldn’t control all the little Jigga wannabe’s that were popping up when his career was on an uprise… So I’m not sure how he thinks his saying the Auto-Tune era needs to die, is going to help, or make it die. I care that it has the potential of watering down hip-hop, but how can you really stop it?

Our grandparents said that our parents music wasn’t real music. Our parents say our music isn’t real music. And we say that our kids music is not real music!! So why complain about Auto-Tune and hip-hop artists using it (T.Pain is not a hip-hop artist by the way)! It’s really not that big of a deal. If the masses don’t like what Auto-Tune is producing, that music won’t be in demand….Besides, nothing lasts forever…

And the tradition goes on………….

Hip-Hop Billboard 200 Update

Published by kago71 under music Edit This

With Black Eyed Peas releasing their album The E.N.D. this week, I was stuck with the decision of whether to put them on this list or not. I mean, many of us don’t consider them hip-hop, but then others who don’t listen to rap music, do consider them hip-hop. So since they’ve got that hip-hop swagg on em, I decided to include them in this list, which puts our genre back at the top of the music industry. Eminem, who we should get use to seeing in the top 10, is still sitting pretty in the top 3. 2 new releases made our top 5 list, in Mos Def’s The Ecstatic and D-Block’s no security. One more new release this week didn’t make it into the top, but DJ Quik & Kurupt released a duo album, that I had no idea they were even doing. You’d think if they had better marketing and promotion, that someone outside of the Golden State would know about these collaborations.

At any rate, here are your hip-hop albums in the top 100…

# 1 Black Eyed Peas -The E.N.D.

# 3 Eminem- Relapse

# 9 Mos Def - The Ecstatic

# 40 D-Block -No Security

# 40 Method Man & Redman - Blackout 2!

Remaining Hip Hop Albums Within The Top 100

# 54 Rick Ross- Deeper Than Rap

# 61 DJ Quik & Kurupt- BlaQKout

# 67 Busta Rhymes- Back On My B.S.

# 74 Soulja Boy Tell’em- SouljaBoyTellem.com

# 79 Lil Wayne- Tha Carter III

# 81 Flo Rida- R.O.O.T.S.

# 82 T.I.- Paper Trail

# 84 Kanye West- 808’s & Heartbreak

#90 Jadakiss- The Last Kiss

Serius Jones Vs. Murda Mook - Who Won? Part II: Round 2

Published by kago71 under music Edit This

So I decided to break each round of this battle down because people on youtube still be arguing back and forth about who won, and most of them don’t know a damn thing about hip-hop!

In Part I: Round 1 of this series, Serius Jones was declared the winner, due to his witty and focused lyrics. Murda Mook came with a lot of energy which can be good, but in this case it’s just covering up the fact that his lyrics & punchlines aren’t as strong. He also had 77 people at the battle to support him, which makes it seem like he is the better MC, which is another illusion like the energy he rhymes with. Those who disagree, remember what this is….not a popularity contest and certainly not a “who can get they most hype” contest. With that said, let’s check out the next round.

ROUND 2

Off top, as much rhyming as Murda Mook did this round, his lyrics were straight ASS! I mean, he had a few one liners in there, but if I wanted to here someone rhyme with that little skill, I would’ve went to the hood and got 2 shorty’s to go at it.

Murda Mook’s rhymes were barely directed at his opponent! He did more rhyming about his crew and their guns than he did about Serius Jones. We all know he wrote those rhymes and memorized them, and he couldn’t do better than that? Also, if you go back and look at him while he was rhyming, he kept looking all around the room and into the camera as if he was looking around for support, instead of focusing on his opponent.

Now, I saw someone comment about how Murda Mook won this round because he kept going passed his appointed 3 minutes, but that is a load of bull. It did help him out a bit to create another illusion that he is the better MC. But realistically, SMACK, should’ve cut him off themselves. Fight Klub does it, to make things more even and fair. So obviously, SMACK showed favoritism to Murda Mook, which put Serius Jones at odds a bit. So SMACK gets a demerit for being partial to one MC.

Another commented on how Mook knew Serius Jones’ rhymes….The only rhyme/word he repeated in this round was “backboard” And if you listen while Mook is rhyming, Serius was repeating a whole lot of his rhymes…so what is that????

So like round 1 of this battle, Serius Jones is the clear cut winner! His rhymes were focused, witty, creative, and directed at his opponent. He also stays in the face of Murda Mook while he is rhyming which shows a lot more confidence than Murda Mook has so far.

Actual Hip-Hop Billboard 200 Update Here!!!

Published by kago71 under music Edit This

So the Billboard is updated weekly on Thursday’s! So you all will be update each week on Thursday or Friday. Now that the confusion with that is out the way, let’s talk about the albums on the billboard chart. Looking at this chart every week is a true reminder of economic times….Almost every album that debuted 2 weeks ago is already out of the top 25, and looking at the weekly numbers for album sales for the top couple of albums on the billboard 200, if they aren’t in the top 10, they might have only sold 30 albums for the week!

Yeah, that’s pretty shitty…I mean, Taylor Swift…country singer, model, actress, last album went triple platinum…this one of the hottest chicks in the game right now! But her latest album, which has now been on the billboard chart for 30 weeks and hasn’t fell from the top 10 once, hasn’t even gone gold!!!!!

With all that said, it’s almost a sigh of relief that Eminem has released his Relapse album. I mean, Eminem is one of the best rappers of all time, and we’ve all seen the kind of numbers his sound scan has done in the past. He held us down in the #1 spot for the previous 2 weeks, only to fall to #2 this week, but I think that he will be at the top for a while longer, and no doubt will be our leader on the chart for weeks to come. All other albums on this chart are doing alright i guess… Like I said in the beginning, if the album isn’t in the top 10 or so, they may be only selling a couple hundred or so albums per week……

# 2 Eminem- Relapse

# 30 Method Man & Redman - Blackout! 2

# 40 Rick Ross - Deeper Than Rap

# 41 Busta Rhymes -Back On My BS

# 67 Soulja Boy Tell’em - iSouljaBoyTellem.com

Remaining Hip Hop Albums Within The Top 100

# 70 T.I.- Paper Trail

# 73 Jadakiss- The Last Kiss

# 75 Kanye West- 808’s & Heartbreak

# 76 Flo Rida- R.O.O.T.S.

# 82 Lil Wayne- Tha Carter III

# 90 Cam’ron- Crime Pays

# 95 Drama- Gangsta Grillz: The Album Vol. 2

# 96 J Dilla- Jay Stay Paid

Hip-Hop Billboard 200 Chart

Published by kago71 under music Edit This

Ok, somehow…somewhere…I missed a week on the billboard chart. I know that I haven’t been posting as often as I used to, due to the funny compensation practices of today.com, but how the hell did I miss a whole week? They do update it weekly, I know that, but did they change the day that they do the updates???

Anyways, I apologize to everyone who depends on that chart that I make each week. This week is looking pretty sad. I mean, when I have to go into the 50’s & 60’s to get part of my top 5, that’s pretty bad. Of course, I expected things to fluctuate from my previous Billboard posting, but this just doesn’t look good. With that said, here are your hip-hop albums on the Billboard 200…..

# 1 Eminem- Relapse

# 18 Method Man & Redman - Blackout! 2

# 22 Busta Rhymes -Back On My BS

# 32 Rick Ross - Deeper Than Rap

Serius Jones Vs. Murda Mook - Who Won? Part I: Round 1

Published by kago71 under music Edit This

Ok, so this battle took place in 2006. 3 years ago!! But people still talk about Serius Jones’ battles like they just happened.

When I go on youtube.com and pull up the rounds for this battle, I noticed that people are still commenting and arguing back and forth about who won this battle. So I decided to pick this battle apart, round for round to see who really was the victor.

ROUND 1

Now….on youtube, there are a bunch of Internet thugs going back and forth about who won this round, and NONE of them know a thing about hip-hop! What you may think you saw, wasn’t really ANYTHING….

First off, the battle obviously took place on Murda Mook’s territory, because it seemed like EVERY person in the building was cheerleading for him. This is illusion # 1.

Second, it appears that Murda Mook is hanging in there because he does come on very Strong with the energy. This is illusion #2

Third, when 2 MC’s battle, they don’t really have to so much directly talk about the other MC right!? This is illusion #3

The reason these 3 points were brought up is because these are the 3 things that seem to sway people when they see this battle the most.

Now, just because Murda Mook had the whole room cheerleading for him, doesn’t mean that he had the better rhymes. It means that, before the battle even took place, those people were already going to cheer for him, and try to make him look like the winner. So don’t let the crowd influence who you think the winner is. It’s like, Kobe Bryant playing 1on1 with Lebron James in Cleveland…who’s really gonna cheer for Kobe? NOBODY!

Second, this is an MC battle. And even though energy plays a big part in helping an MC be victorious, that alone doesn’t make a rapper, a good MC! I’m not saying that Murda Mook isn’t a good MC because he is….but, if you go back and listen to what these 2 rappers were saying, Serius Jones clearly had the better verse! His rhymes were waaaay more focused on the opposition, than Murda Mook. And the things he had to say were much more original than Murda Mook. Not to mention that the person who goes second, has the advantage, and Murda Mook didn’t capitalize, except where energy calls!

Last, Murda Mook did a lot of rhyming about himself, and his crew. In an MC battle, the subject is your opponent! He did come with some good lines, but they were few and far in between when you compare his verse to Serius Jones’.

Basically what I’m saying is….if you took away the exessive crowd cheerleading and actually listened to what these two rappers were saying, you would easily see that Serius Jones won round 1 of this battle!

Weekly Hip-Hop Billboard 200 Update

Published by kago71 under music Edit This

What’s going on Hip-Hoppers? Hope everyone enjoyed their Memorial Day weekend. And for those who didn’t have a Memorial Day weekend, I hope you enjoyed your weekend!

Ok! So to the chart! With 3 new albums on the chart this week and an overall rise in rankings, this week is looking a lot better than last, as far as hip-hop albums are concerned. The music industry is still feeling the weight of the bad economy, but at least they’re are still making some money!

Cam’ron is back! And he is our new leader on the Billboard 200. Haven’t heard this album yet, but plan to purchase this week. Deeper Than Rap only dropped one position, which shows solidity from last week to this week. Paul Wall released his Fast Life album and it debuted at #15. Probably not what he hoped for, but not bad considering that his single isn’t really getting any serious radio spins. Gucci Mane’s Murder Was The Case came in at #23 in it’s debut. The title of his album is pretty controversial considering the murder case he beat. I like Gucci Mane as a rapper, but don’t know if the content in his album is going to be entertaining enough to go buy it. If someone could let me know, I’d highly appreciate it! Anyhow, Jadakiss, who was in 2nd place last week at #34, is in 5th place this week still at #34. Mike Jones’ The Voice, is the only album to have really taken a dive this week. With that said, here are your hip-hop albums on the Billboard 200…..

# 3 Cam’ron- Crime Pays

# 9 Rick Ross - Deeper Than Rap

# 15 Paul Wall - Fast Life

# 23 Gucci Mane - Murder Was The Case

# 34 Jadakiss - The Last Kiss

Remaining Hip Hop Albums Within The Top 100

# 36 Flo Rida- R.O.O.T.S.

# 53 Kanye West- 808’s & Heartbreak

# 57 T.I.- Paper Trail

# 59 Soulja Boy Tell’em- SouljaBoyTellem.com

# 72 Lil Wayne- Tha Carter III

# 84 Mike Jones- The Voice

# 90 UGK- UGK 4 Life

# 99 Tech N9ne Collabos- Sickology 101

And The Winner Is: Kat Williams

Published by kago71 under music Edit This

In the entire history of hip-hop, I don’t think there has ever been a rapper that has been more humiliated and out done by someone who isn’t a rapper than the Young Gunz were by Kat Williams. This isn’t really even a battle really. It was more like a massacre. And even though Young Gunz weren’t really trying to diss Kat Williams in that line, they obviously pissed him off and got Kat Williams the “Micro-Mini Pimp Rapper!”

That shit was soooo damn funny, I had to include the youtube version……ENJOY!

Great Hip-Hop Producers: Alchemist

Published by kago71 under music Edit This

Alchemist is one of the most respected yet, unknown producers of the hip-hop game. His style entails more of that original hip-hop sound.

It’s not uncommon for a rap artist to get off on an Alchemist beat. Mobb Deep is known for riding Alchemist beats fairly well. It’s a shame that someone who has put as much work in the game as Alchemist isn’t more popular among the people. Then again, for a producer, it’s more necessary to be popular among artists and much less the people.

At any rate, if you were to ask most rappers, they would easily be able to tell you who Alchemist is. Others who couldn’t, are obviously just too young. Eminem is another artist who has had some nice flows over Alchemist beats. It’s all about making a mark. Whether you do it center-stage, or behind the scenes. Alchemist has made his.

R.I.P. to Atlanta Rapper Dolla….

Published by kago71 under music Edit This

It’s no secret that there are 100,000 cowards all over the United States that claim to be the hardest on the planet, yet, won’t do battle without a pistol. It’s one thing to have a pistol on you for your defense. It’s another to grab your pistol and go gun someone down by suprise.

Unfortunately, ATLien Dolla, has become a victim of one of these week-hearted individuals. Law Enforcement caught up with the shooter at LAX.

Depending on the kind of lifestyle you live or just the neighborhood you live in, you may have to be strapped all the time, and I can respect that. But I don’t respect people who’s hearts have so much Fear that they go around trying to kill off every person they feel threatened by. GOD intended for all of us to be able to work through these difficulties with our minds. The more you use your mind in pressure situations, the quicker it will be the next time you’re under pressure. The quicker your mind is, the easier it will be for you to get yourself out of bad situations.

R.I.P. DOLLA

Hip-Hop Billboard Update for Last 2 Weeks…My Bad!!

Published by kago71 under music Edit This

Hello Hip-Hoppers! I apologize for my brief absense from the scene. Besides coming down with my one bad cold for the year, I have been very involved in a very lucrative project. Won’t give any details til things take off.

At any rate, the hip-hop billboard chart seemed to be rolling, but this week things aren’t looking so good! Last week we had a couple of new releases in Mike Jones’ The Voice and Tech N9ne Collabos’ Sickology 101. Thought this was a positive in that we would remain in the top for the most part. But that quickly fell down the ladder and almost off the chart. Rick Ross’ Deeper Than Rap has been holding down the crown, in hip-hop anyways, for the past few weeks on the Billboard 200. Jadakiss’ The Last Kiss has regained the #2 spot, while Flo Rida takes back the bronze. T.I. reclaims a top 5 position, while Mike Jones falls to the bottom of the top 5 in just his 2nd week. Hopefully, some of these albums have a surge, because it isn’t looking so good right now.

Here are your Top Hip-Hop albums for this week and last week….

# 8 Rick Ross - Deeper Than Rap

# 34 Jadakiss - The Last Kiss

# 46 Flo Rida - R.O.O.T.S.

Rap’s New Generation: Is There Any Hope?

Published by kago71 under music Edit This

I don’t wish poverty on anyone, but I don’t think that many new rap artists or groups are eating very well nowadays. I mean, just look at the weekly sound scan data….It’s pretty sad if you compare today to 10 years ago. Everyone has someone to blame for this type of shit. Whether it be the economy, A&R’s, radio stations, or record company executives it’s always someone elses fault.

Now, I know that an artist has to do what their record company wants, or they can kiss their dreams goodbye…but I blame the artists themselves. The path that hip-hop music has been on for the past 7 years (as far as content) has been lame!!!!!! I’ve questioned whether it’s just because I’m getting older, but that couldn’t be true, because I like many new artists and what they have brung to the table. My problem is that NO NEW ARTISTS WANT TO BE ORIGINAL!!!

Whatever happen to being different and standing out? Or just doing your own thing, not everyone else’s thing, your way? That’s what hip-hop used to be about. Now it just seems like a bunch of No Limit-Rocafella-Hot Boyz clones with some very small tweaks. But there is hope…..

I’ve noticed that most of the current artists are feeling the boredom of Hip-Hop too. And many of them, in attempt to actually sell some records, are working on their styles to try and get away from the shit we here every time we turn on the radio. Kid Cudi is working on his debut album and realized that he wants to establish himself in this rap game, and as a result has chosen to decrease the number of collabos he originally thought he wanted. More new artists need to think about doing this too!!!!!!

As far as record sales, certain artists will ALWAYS go Gold or Platinum no matter what. Examples are: Kanye West, Jay-Z, T.I., Eminem, 50 Cent, Young Jeezy, Dr. Dre, and JadaKiss. Outside of that, what kind of numbers a Hip-Hop album will do, are shakey. If you look at this list of rappers, you see nothing but leaders and innovators! The hip-hop community embraces these guys because they know who they are. Because they do THEIR own thing. They’ve made THEIR mark in music because of it.

No one is going to take you serious for very long if you come out talkin’ about your car, your jewelry, your clothes, your block, your gang, your drug sales, and how you got your pistol with you! If this is you, YOU ARE BORING THE HELL OUT OF US!!! Unless of course it’s coming from someone like Young Jeezy. Be true to yourself! Tell your own story! You can be from the ‘burbs too! You don’t have to come from NYC, Chi-Town, L.A., ATL, or any major city.

!!!!!!!!!! ORIGINALITY !!!!!!!!!!!

Hip-Hop Billboard 200 Update: It’s May!

Published by kago71 under music Edit This

Whether you like Rick Ross or not, you should give a round of applause to the fact that we (Hip-Hop) are #1 on the chart. Of course we already know that this isn’t due to any astronomical numbers and that week 1 can be a fluke for how successful the album will be overall. But we are on top nonetheless. And Deeper Than Rap, acutally is a pretty decent album. The best way to start off the month is on top!  So yay! To May! Other than that, there has been a few fluctuations in ranking, here and there. Other than that, things pretty much look the same as last week. Here is your weekly update.

# 1 Rick Ross - Deeper Than Rap

# 10 Jadakiss - The Last Kiss

# 25 Flo Rida - R.O.O.T.S.

# 40 T.I. - Paper Trail

# 43 UGK - UGK 4 Life

Remaining Hip Hop Albums Within The Top 100

# 56 Kanye West- 808’s & Heartbreak

# 58 Soulja Boy Tell’em- SouljaBoyTellem.com

# 63 Lil Wayne- Tha Carter III

# 72 Slim Thug- Boss Of All Bosses

# 85 Gorilla Zoe- Don’t Feed Da Animals

Rick Ross Disses, Comments On Album, and Shows Off “Air Yeezy”!!!!!!!!!

Published by kago71 under music Edit This

Ok! So I’m a Kanye West fan…

I went to a show he had in Las Vegas, NV, at the Red Rock Station Casino, and it was the best show I’ve been to. I’ve seen a lot of rappers put on a show, but no one has done it like him. On top of that, I feel that he is one of the realest rappers in the game because he doesn’t follow suit like everyone else…….
So you’re probably like, what does this have to do with the title of this post?
The “Air Yeezy” baby! I own a pair of these Kanye West Edition Air Jordan’s, and they are my favorite shoes! They’re stylish, and comfortable!! Rick Ross showed off his shoe, which happened to be an “Air Yeezy” in black. So, I just thought I’d share that…..

HERE’S THE RICK ROSS VIDEO!!!!!
